Why ultrasonic instead of hydro
A hydrostatic retest fills the cylinder with water and pressurizes it past service pressure. Ultrasonic examination is non-destructive testing: it uses ultrasonic waves to measure wall thickness and search for defects from the outside without stressing, opening or wetting the cylinder.

For medical oxygen and food-grade CO2, a dry cylinder is an absolute requirement. Residual moisture is a contamination cost you don't pay with ultrasonic.
